Gujarat: Body Recovered in Wankaner Linked to Serial Murders by Tantrik

| Updated: December 12, 2024 19:29

In the case of a 42-year-old tantrik, arrested for committing 12 murders and later died in police custody, the police have now recovered the dismembered body of one of the victims near Wankaner in Morbi.

The deceased identified as Nagma, was lured into a relationship by the accused Navalsinh Chavda. He later murdered and dismembered her body following an argument.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-7) Shivam Verma said, “The Sarkhej police with the assistance of the LCB of Zone-7 and Morbi police recovered the body after Chavda’s nephew gave pinpoint location of the body. The police team was working for the last 4-5 days.”

He further revealed that Nagma’s case is one of many linked to Chavda, an accused of exploiting people’s superstitions to commit multiple murders.

“Chavda used his false identity as a tantrik to deceive victims into believing he could solve their problems or multiply their money through black magic rituals. His methods involved administering sodium nitrite, a chemical that induced fatal heart attacks, to his victims,” Verma said.

Chavda’s crimes extended beyond Wankaner, with revelations of other murders across Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surendranagar and Kutch.

In one instance, 62-year-old Kadar Ali Mukasam from Rajkot approached Chavda seeking a solution to personal issues. Kadar, his wife Farida and their son Asif were later found dead in their car in a forest near Mota Rampur village. Initially considered a suicide, investigations have now linked their deaths to poisoning by Chavda.

“Police found a suicide note from the spot. The handwriting of the suicide note was similar to another note found from another spot. The language is Hindi but written in Gujarati. The content of the suicide notes is also similar. Both the notes will be sent to FSL for further clarification,” he said.

The Past Full of Murders

Chavda’s heinous crimes date back years. In 2021, he poisoned and murdered Vivek Gohil in Ahmedabad’s Aslali area, a death initially believed to be a road accident. Chavda also admitted to killing Raj Bavaji in Anjar and confessed to murdering his own grandmother, mother and uncle over a decade ago.

Despite being on the run for months, Chavda was arrested by Sarkhej Police on December 3 while allegedly planning another murder. His business partner in a taxi venture tipped off the authorities about his movements. Chavda confessed to killing 12 people, all of whom were poisoned with sodium nitrite during fake rituals.

On December 10, while in police custody, Chavda fell ill and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His custodial death has raised questions, though the police have maintained that they are continuing to gather evidence and investigate the case thoroughly.

DCP Shivam Verma commended the Sarkhej Police for their dedicated efforts in uncovering Chavda’s crimes.

Authorities are now coordinating with other districts to investigate potential connections to additional murders and identify any accomplices. The investigation is ongoing and further updates are expected as new evidence emerges.
