The Special Operations Group of the Surat police has arrested a Bangladeshi national for possessing multiple forged identification documents and illegally entering Gujarat.
The accused has been identified as 32-year-old Mohammad Hamim Abdul Fakir, according to the police. Fakir is originally from Bangladesh’s Khulna area.
Authorities said that many documents, including a forged Aadhaar card, PAN card, Bangladeshi Nikah card and Bangladesh National ID card, were confiscated from the accused’s possession.
According to officials, the police are questioning the accused in order to find out who assisted him in entering India and to track down the agent who planned his journey from Bangladesh.
During questioning, the accused informed the police that he had entered Gujarat via West Bengal through an agent about seven years ago.
He later travelled to Surat after acquiring forged documents in Kolkata, they added.
Earlier, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested a man for allegedly providing information on Coast Guard ship movements to a Pakistani agent.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Deepesh Gohel, was receiving Rs 200 per day from the Pakistani agent, Sahima.
