Gujarat: ACB Raids Ex-TPO’s Office; Finds 22 Kg Gold and Rs 18 Crore Cash

| Updated: July 3, 2024 13:10

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday searched the private office of Rajkot’s former town planning officer Mansukh Sagathia, who is presently under arrest for alleged involvement in the TRP Game Zone fire tragedy.

The raid was carried out on Monday night at Sagathia’s office, which is located in the posh Twin Star building. An astounding Rs 18 crore worth of cash, gold, silver, and other valuables were found during the operation. He has been remanded in police custody until July 8.

The ACB team, which includes officers from Rajkot and Surendranagar, arrived at the office at 11 p.m. and carried on its search until the following morning.

The illegal valuables were found hidden inside a locker. It is said that Sagathia, who was taken to the office by the ACB team, used a power of attorney that was issued to him to acquire the office in his brother’s name.

22 kilogrammes of gold biscuits worth over Rs 15 crore, silver and diamond jewellery worth over Rs 3.5 crore in cash, foreign currency worth Rs 1.82 lakh, and expensive watches with pure gold straps were among the items seized by the ACB team.

Sagathia’s fortune is believed to be 700 times greater than his official salary, based on the estimated worth of the seized valuables. The income tax agency is expected to be involved in this case’s investigation shortly, according to sources.

Based on a court-issued transfer warrant, ACB sources claim that Sagathia was once again taken into custody by bureau officers and presented before the court on Tuesday. Following hearings from both sides, the judge remanded him in custody till July 8.
