Gujarat: AAP Gears Up for Local-Body Polls, Targets BJP Over Corruption, Neglect

| Updated: December 22, 2024 19:33

Gujarat Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) President Isudan Gadhvi on Sunday highlighted the party’s strategic efforts, stating that a meeting of office-bearers from all state zones and districts was recently conducted to strengthen their campaign.

The AAP leaders held a press conference at the party’s state headquarters in Ahmedabad to discuss preparations for the upcoming local body elections in the state.

Gadhvi expressed confidence in the AAP’s ability to challenge and defeat the BJP, stating that the party is progressing robustly across the state. “The BJP is full of corruption and neglecting public issues, including municipalities struggling with unpaid electricity bills, corruption in contract allocations and misuse of development funds,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Gadhvi along with national joint secretary and local self-governance election state in-charge Gopal Italia, state general secretary Manoj Sorathiya, MLA Chaitar Vasava and Saurashtra East Zone Executive President Rajubhai Solanki.

“Lack of Adequate Police Force”

Highlighting the shortage of police personnel in Gujarat, Gadhvi alleged that the BJP-led administration was misusing police resources to target AAP leaders instead of addressing law and order concerns.

He pointed to various scandals involving BJP leaders, including drug rackets, land mafias and corruption cases, claiming that “no action had been taken despite available evidence”.

Gadhvi Targets Home Minister

Attacking MoS (Home) Harsh Sanghavi, Gadhvi referenced a recent incident involving a fake Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, alleging BJP leaders’ connections to the accused.

“AAP leaders Gopal Italia and Manoj Sorathiya were reportedly falsely implicated, but police investigations revealed no evidence against them. This incident is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation,” he alleged.

MLA Chaitar Vasava, a prominent tribal leader, was also targeted, according to Gadhvi. “Vasava had earlier facilitated Rs 30 lakh in compensation for families affected by an industrial blast, a move that allegedly angered BJP leaders,” he claimed.

Gadhvi further alleged that baseless complaints were filed against Vasava, diverting police resources while serious crimes, such as the rape of a labourer’s daughter in the same region, went unaddressed.

Further, Gadhvi accused BJP leaders of involvement in a Rs 6,000 crore ‘ponzi’ scam, demanding accountability and questioning the lack of arrests despite public evidence.

He said that the AAP would write to the Director General of Police and the Governor, seeking a comprehensive investigation into these allegations.

Gadhvi asserted that the people of Gujarat would not tolerate such actions and would deliver a strong response in the upcoming elections.
