Gujarat: 93% Rise In Covid Cases In Last 24 Hours

Gujarat recorded 394 new Covid cases, one death and five Omicron infections in the last 24 hours, as against 204 positive cases, one death and 24 Omicron infections yesterday.

Taking into account today’s figures, the state has seen a 93% rise in the Covid infection in a day, even though the fatalities remain stable and Omicron infections saw a drop.

Yet again, Ahmedabad was the biggest contributor with 178 cases as against yesterday’s 98 cases – a rise of 82% and a 203-day high.

The other major contributor includes Surat (52), Rajkot (35), Vadodara (34), Anand (12) and Navsari (10). The one death recorded was in Kheda.

With today’s update, the state’s active Covid tally stands at 1,420, while 17 patients are on ventilators. The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic has reached 10,115.

On the Omicron front, the two new patients have been identified from Ahmedabad, whereas Vadodara, Mehsana and Porbandar recorded one patient each. The total number of Omicron patients since the arrival of heavily mutated variant stands at 78, of which 24 have been discharged. The active Omicron tally in the state is 54.

India reported 6,358 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, according to the health ministry, pushing its active caseload to 75,456. Omicron cases have risen to 653 and at least 186 have recovered, the health ministry said.

Delhi reported 331 new Covid cases, one death, and 144 recoveries in the last 24 hours, with its active caseload standing at 1,289. Delhi has recorded the most cases of Omicron in the country (142), followed by Maharashtra (141), Kerala (57), Gujarat (54) and 43 (Rajasthan), the health ministry said in a bulletin.
