A newly built flyover in Gujarat is already in need of serious repairs as the iron strips have come out within three months of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel declaring it open to the public. The foundation stone of the bridge, situated on the Dakor bypass road to reach Thasra, Kapadvanj, and Nadiad, was laid down by former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel in 2020.
Mangalya Buildcon Agency was entrusted with the construction of the 70-crore flyover. The need for repairs so soon after it’s inauguration raises doubts over the quality of the construction. The allegations of malpractice in the construction of the bridge are already flying.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Flyover on 8 March 2024, just prior to the Lok Sabha elections. The construction work which was scheduled to complete within 18 months, continued for 32 months. The contractors have not constructed the service road despite receiving Rs.42 lakh.
Putting up the explanation from the government side, the officials of Road Construction Department, (Dakor) have clarified that angle welding of iron expansion joint is done. Yogendrasinh Parmar (Bakabhai), BJP MLA from Dakor, has also come to the defence of the company, saying there is no such thing as derailment.
Mangalya Buildcon Agency has said that the work on the flyover is still going on. They tried to justify it by saying that two joints of the pavement are raised due to overloaded vehicles. The company assured that there was no gap in the bridge.
