Gujarat: 2-Month-Old Branded With Hot Iron Rod To Treat Cough

A similar case was reported in Gujarat on Sunday, not long after it was revealed that a quack in Madhya Pradesh had branded a 3-month-old infant with a hot iron rod more than 50 times to cure her breathing trouble.

According to the police, the incident was reported in Gujarat’s Porbandar district. The quack was apprehended, and an FIR was filed against him and the mother of the child on Sunday. The infant is still being watched over in an area government hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). According to hospital officials cited in the story, her condition is stable.

The baby was taken to the charlatan Devrajbhai Katara last week after home treatments failed to stop her cough and phlegm production. With a hot iron rod, Katara allegedly burned the infant’s chest and stomach.

The girl’s condition didn’t improve, so her parents brought her to Bhavsinhji General Hospital in Porbandar. The quack’s brutal treatment of the infant, which resulted in medical issues, was disclosed by the physicians’ intervention.

“She was put on oxygen support in the ICU. During the treatment, we found that she was branded on her chest…This increased her complications,” a hospital source said.

The Indian Penal Code Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by means of any device likely to cause death) and other laws were invoked in an FIR against Katara and the baby’s mother in response to a complaint from the father of the child, the source said.

A two-and-a-half-month infant child passed away earlier this month in the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh after allegedly being brandished more than 50 times by a quack. In the past, patients’ pain was reduced by having heated iron rods placed on their bodies.
