With 10 more school children testing positive for Covid-19 in Ahmedabad on Thursday, the number has risen to 20. District Education Officer (DEO) RR Vyas informed Vibes of India that all the schools which had reported Covid-19 infections among students have been told to stop offline classes.
“Out of the 10 students, four are from the secondary section of DPS Bopal, Udgam School, St Kabir and another school in Jivraj Park,” Vyas said.
He added that the other six cases were reported from the primary sections of different schools.
It may be recalled that earlier this week, Education Minister Jitubhai Vaghani had said that the schools would remain open and the decision to send the wards to school was up to the parents.
However, sources said at least 70 per cent of the parents had stopped sending their children to schools and preferred online education in view of fears about a third wave of the virus. Meanwhile, Covid-19 guidelines in the schools have become stricter, according to the authorities.
