Gujarat Congress leader Paresh Dhanani, who has been actively campaigning in Maharashtra ahead of the 20 November elections, was rushed to Shreeji Hospital in Nashik after suffering a heart attack. Dhanani underwent an emergency angioplasty procedure and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
The Gujarat Congress shared an update via social media, stating, “The former opposition leader, Paresh Dhanani, was taken to Shreeji Hospital in Mumbai Naka, Nashik, for urgent treatment as his health deteriorated. His condition is stable. Praying for a speedy recovery.”
Congress spokesperson Dr Manish Doshi confirmed that Dhanani had undergone an angioplasty and that his health is now improving. Dhanani is expected to be discharged within a day as his recovery progresses.
Dhanani, a prominent figure within the Indian National Congress, has served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly and has represented Amreli as an MLA since 2012, following an earlier term from 2002 to 2007. Known for his long-standing political career, Dhanani also holds a B.Com degree from Saurashtra University.
In the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Dhanani contested against BJP leader Parshottam Rupala in Rajkot, marking the first time the two had faced each other since Dhanani’s significant victory over Rupala in the 2002 Amreli assembly elections. Despite a competitive race, Dhanani lost to Rupala.
