As Fenil Goyani, who was found guilty of killing 21-year old Grishma Vekaria, was presented in court today for his sentencing, the court in Surat said that it would announce its decision on May 5. The court heard from both sides again today and will deliberate on the matter before deciding on a specific punishment for Goyani.
Goyani was produced in court on April 26, where his attorneys argued that he should be given a minimum sentence. Grishma’s family and attorney, on the other hand, demanded that Goyani should be a sentence so cruel that anyone in the future would hesitate to commit such an act.
A Surat court, after repeatedly watching the video of the incident, revealed that the accused had kept another paddle in his pants. During the investigation it was also revealed that Goyani had tried to buy an AK-47 rifle to kill Grishma. The court also ruled that the murder was committed in the same way as a professional killer. The court heard both sides and after examining all the evidence, announced Goyani guilty on April 21. Goyani has been convicted under various sections, including 302, in the Surat summer murder case. A Surat court judge also found him guilty. Now it is up to the judge to decide on how severe the punishment should be.
On February 12, Grishma Vekaria was killed in public when Goyani slit her throat and stabbed her. He later attempted suicide. He was rushed to hospital after the incident was reported and given treatment. Goyani was discharged from the hospital on February 15 and was arrested by police.
