In one of the biggest land allotment of such kind, the state government has took the decision to allot 6024 hectares of wasteleand for the project. In 2019, the Gujarat government had introuduced a policy that wasteland could be alloted for the purpose of establishing renewable energy parks to generate electricity.
The project, a Solar/Wind/Wind-Solar Hybrid renewable energy park, will come up in the little Rann area in Banaskantha district of Gujarat on 6024 hectares.
A High Power committee, chaired by the Chif Minister Bhupendra Patel took the decision to allot the huge tract of wasteland in Banaskantha for the purpose as stated in the policy. The top officials from indstries and mines, finance, revenue and energy departments were part of the meeting.
The proposed park will help generate 9000MW of electricity. This would be one of the biggest land allotment decisions.Meanwhie, in January 2022, Reliance had requested 4.5 lakh acre land in the Kutch district for a 100GW energy project.
The tryst with solar parks is not all rosy so far in Gujarat. The solar park established at Charanka village a decade ago still has to fulfill the promises it made.
