Google has announced that it is discontinuing the ‘cached’ web page feature, which was meant to help users access pages when loading was slow. The company said that the feature is no longer needed, as loading speeds have improved significantly. The feature allowed users to see a webpage as Google indexed it, which was useful for verifying websites, checking SEO issues, and tracking content changes.
Google has also made changes to its user interface, removing the ‘Cached’ button from the “about this result” dialogue. Users could previously click on the button to view a stored version of the webpage from Google’s servers.
In addition, Google has streamlined its Google Assistant features, eliminating some of the less used functions. Users can no longer use voice commands to send emails, videos, or audio messages, or to do tasks like making reservations, sending payments, or posting on social media. Google said that this was done to improve the user experience.
Meanwhile, Google has expanded the language support for its AI chatbot Bard, which is powered by Gemini Pro. The chatbot can now communicate in over 40 languages, including nine Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, and Urdu. The chatbot is available in more than 230 countries and territories across the world.
