The Congress slammed the BJP on Thursday and said that “global scamsters” were now standing up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the embattled IPL founder Lalit Modi threatened to sue Rahul Gandhi in court in a series of tweets.
Rahul Gandhi came under fire on Thursday as former IPL chief Lalit Modi, who is being investigated for financial irregularities in India, called the Congress party out for referring to him as a “fugitive of justice” even though he has never been found guilty of a crime.
Reacting to his remarks, Congress general secretary in-charge organisation K C Venugopal said: “Lalit Modi is a fugitive in multi-million dollar frauds whose cowardice made him run away. He now enjoys a plush life abroad thanks to BJP’s inaction. It’s laughable if he thinks anyone takes him seriously.”
“A new low for PM Modi, that global scamsters are coming to his defence,” Venugopal said.
Pawan Khera, the chief of the Congress’ media and publicity department, made fun of the BJP by asking, “Is now Saheb taking help from abroad to threaten Rahul ji with legal action?”
“Will pressure be put on Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya etc. to file a case against Rahul Gandhi?” Khera said.
The BJP has come under fire from the opposition party for allegedly letting financial criminals like Mehul Choksi, Lalit Modi, and Nirav Modi escape with people’s money and fly abroad.
After the Surat court found Rahul Gandhi guilty of criminal defamation in 2019 for his remark about the “Modi surname,” the Lok Sabha Secretariat disqualified him from serving as the MP for Wayanad in Kerala on Friday.
