Gift City, Gandhinagar has decided to market itself internationally, inching towards its stated raison d’etre. Deciding to participate with vigour at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, it has planned two dedicated panel discussions on investment opportunities. The Gift City MD Tapan Ray will deliver a keynote address. Global investors from Southeast Asia, Middle East, Europe, and the UK are likely to be in the audience.
EXPO is a Super Mega event held in Dubai, a traditionally international hub for bullion and diamond merchants, where more than 190 countries would be present through their representatives of the business world. Indian Pavilion at the Expo was inaugurated by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on 1st October.
As per a report by Indian Express, Tapan Ray while emphasizing that there are new business opportunities at Gift City IFSC said ” We are connecting with the large global audience through this international platform in Dubai,”. Gift City is going to make a pitch for attracting the global players for bullion trade, Alternative Investment Fund ( AIF), aircraft leasing, and global in-house centres. In the Union budget 2020, the finance minister had announced a proposal to launch a bullion exchange from Gift City.
Gujarat International Finance Tech-City or GIFT City, bearing in its nomenclature, distinct imprint of acronym loving Modiji was conceived during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor Summit 2007 on the lines of modern-day Shanghai. The GIFT City’s plan is for 359 hectares (886 acres) of land with approximately 110 buildings of 5,800,000 m2 (62,000,000 sq ft) of built-up area, of which around 67% is commercial, 22% is residential and 11% is social facilities.
With prestigious companies such as Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, Gujarat Thornton, and Abans Investments. looking keener than before to mark their presence, the Gift City is witnessing a spurt in entities opting for setting up operations at this high profile SEZ in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The number of enterprises operating from Gift City rose to 280 this year. More importantly, by august, the value of banking transactions carried out from Gift City exceeded 110n billion dollars.
