Billionaire business tycoon Gautam Adani and Total of France’s joint venture- Adani Total Gas Ltd and State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have bid for the maximum number of licenses to provide piped cooking gas to households and retail CNG to automobiles.
Tenders were floated by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) for 65 geographical areas across India. The bids were made public on December 15 by the PNGRB. Four locations in Chhattisgarh did not receive a single bid from the participating companies.
Indian Oil has bid for the highest number of geographical locations, with 53 bids out of 61 locations. Adani-Total JV stood close second with 52 bids. Think Gas Distribution Pvt Ltd was the third-largest bidder with 44 bids for different geographical locations. BPCL and GAIL Gas Ltd have put bids for 43 and 30 locations respectively.
HPCL, Torrent Gas, Delhi’s Indraprastha Gas Ltd, Gujarat Gas, and Assam Gas were other bidders.
