The authorities at the Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, are forced to close down academic activities following the nuisance of the millipede insects.
The 1100 students at the GNLU got an unexpected vacation until Sunday, July 14th. The classes will resume on Monday but will be in online mode. The university runs five-year integrated LLB and LLM courses.
Millipedes are insects, deriving their name from Latin for “thousand feet.”. They are slow-moving insects that are generally harmless to humans. However, the sheer number of them after the monsoon in the gardens and under the trees can be overwhelming.
At present, the GNLU campus, like many other places with gardens and green terrain, is facing the millipede pandemic. At times, the number of these insects is so big that one can not walk along the way without crushing a few of them.
The university is taking steps to deal with the issue while temporarily closing academic activity. As the classes will be online, the students coming from out of state have used the situation to go back to their homes.
