FedEx, one of the largest logistics companies in the world, met the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, in Gandhinagar, on Tuesday, 3rd May 2022. FedEx’s visiting purpose was to verify the feasibility of setting up a Center of Excellence in GIFT City.
Bhupendra Patel expressed readiness from the State Government’s side to cooperate with the plan. According to the IT and ITes policy 2020-26, the incentive was put forward by CM Patel.
Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Shri Pankaj Joshi, Gift City’s M. D. Shri Tapan Ray, Principal Secretary of the Finance Department, Shri J. P. Mr. Gupta, Science and Technology Secretary, Mr. Vijay Nehra, Mr. Sachin Gusia of GIL and officials of Gift City were also present.
During the meeting, FedEx’s delegation by its representatives was substantial. Ms. Kawal Preet, Regional President, AMEA, FedEx Express, headed the FedEx delegation. FedEx folks also visited GIFT city to explore the possibilities and scan opportunities for their company’s growth.
Center of Excellence
The meeting’s agenda between CM Bhupendra Patel and FedEx delegates was to analyze the potential of building the Center of Excellence in GIFT City. Currently, FedEx is considering the role of regional leadership at various levels of India. They are also keen to curate the center to support their global operations.
CM Patel addressed the meeting and said that centers like these would be collaborating in sectors like IT, Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Human Resources. He expressed his willingness to open the institute in GIFT City and extended necessary cooperation from the government. Furthermore, he gave a detailed description of the incentives under the IT and ITes policy of Gujarat.
The advantages of establishing the Center of Excellence were also put forward during the meeting. It was brought up, time and again, that GIFT city offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, finance, and IT. The sector promotes skilled workers, facilities, and tax incentives.
