Amrut Modi, former secretary of Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust, passed away in Ahmedabad today. He was 89.
A few months ago, Modi had resigned from the post of secretary citing health reasons.
A Gandhian, Modi was associated with the SAPMT since the early 1970s. He was staying in the Gandhi Ashram since the mid 1950s.
The Gandhi Ashram was set up by Mahatma Gandhi and is on the banks of river Sabarmati.
A person in the know of developments said that he lost his wife and one of the sons about a year ago. He then went to stay with his other son, who stays in Godhra.
About a month ago, he came to stay with his younger son in the Ranip area.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
