In what seems to be the latest tragedy in a series of unfortunate events, a young Ahmedabad doctor working with Shardaben Hospital in the Saraspur area of Ahmedabad took his life on Thursday morning.
This is the fourth suicide case of a resident doctor over the past month, in Gujarat?
The deceased, identified as Dr Parth Patel, lived in room 42 of the boy’s hostel in Shardaben Hospital. On Thursday, when his friend Kamesh Patel went to call him for breakfast, he found Parth unconscious and an empty vial of an anaesthesia injection near his bed. Kamesh immediately called a doctor to Parth’s room, who declared him dead.
A case of accidental death has been registered with Shaherkotda police.
Hailing from Gandhinagar, Parth was a third-year MD student at the NHL Medical College and was posted at Shardaben Hospital. According to his friends and colleagues, Parth was heavily affected by the recent suicides of two doctors. Dr Hardik Raiyani, 25, and Parth’s fiancé, Dr Archana Sharma, who worked in a Jaipur hospital (CHECK FACTS). Sharma had committed suicide after being charged with the murder of a woman who died of a postpartum hemorrhage at the hospital she worked in.
A police officer said Parth’s engagement to Sharma was broken around a month back.
Raiyani, a MD medicine student and a close friend of Parth from their days as MBBS students at the Government Medical College in Bhavnagar, had committed suicide on March 8 by jumping into a pond in Dholka Taluka of Ahmedabad.
The same day, Dharmesh Nakum, 21, a resident of Agaria-Dhulia village in Rajula taluka of Amreli district, committed suicide by jumping from the 8th floor of the boys’ hostel in Vadnagar Medical College in Mehsana. And in uncanny turn of events, the very same day, Jaideep Darji, 22, a native of Bhiloda and a MBBS student at the Moria Banas Medical College in Palanpur taluka committed suicide by jumping from the college building.
The police are investigating all angles and trying to figure whether all these deaths are related to one another.
