Founding Director Prof Sudhir Jain Bids Adieu To IITGN

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) said goodbye to its founding director Professor Sudhir K Jain on Monday. Professor Amit Prashant, Professor of Civil Engineering, IITGN, will take over the charge of officiating director of the institute from Tuesday.

Jain has bid adieu to IITGN where he served as a director since 2009 as he has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi.

While parting with the institute, Jain said, “It’s overwhelming for me, but I am sure that the Institute is in great hands. IITGN will continue to scale newer heights with fresh ideas, opportunities, and collaborations. There is a great future here. I am grateful to all for being with me during these 12 years and for all the affection and support.”

Before his appointment as the Director at IITGN, Jain served as the Dean of Resource Planning and Generation at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He first assumed the role of Professor in IIT, Kanpur in 1995.

Jain has completed Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Roorkee (now known as the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee) in 1979. He completed his Masters and Doctoral degrees from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena in 1980 and 1983 respectively.
