His father earns a living by selling slippers off his handcart. But Harshil Agarwal has but his best foot forward in academics and notched a 95.13 % in the higher secondary exams. This general- streams student now wishes to pursue his parents’ dreams and study towards becoming a chartered accountant.
Harshil’s misstep at the class X board exams was the rectifier. As he puts it: “My parents were very upset. They did not say a word after the poor results. That was a turning point and I worked hard during the +2 years,” shares the young man.
His school, Shri Vidyamandir Vidyalaya, Gotri, is equally proud of his achievement. Having scored an average 57 percent in class 10 to a high flying 95.13 in class 12, goes miles in pointing about the academics of the institution.
His father, Satish Agarwal, wheels a hand cart in and around the busy streets of Vadodra, selling slippers. They live in a one-room kitchen rented house in Gotri village. “After the 10th grade results, we were dejected. But today, Harshil has given us reason to be proud. My elder brother’s sons are already studying CA. I want my children to do the same. In this locality, we are known as the CA family,” narrated a proud father.
For Harshil’s mother, it “will be the happiest day of her life.” The dream of becoming a CA will plank their hopes of settling down in the US someday.
