A five-year-old girl, a victim of rape and physical assault, is battling for life in Gwalior. The girl has been admitted to a hospital with multiple wounds and injuries to her private parts. She underwent major surgery, and needed 28 stitches to her genitals.
The family of the girl has demanded that the accused be treated as an adult and face the maximum punishment of the death penalty.
According to the police, the accused tried to kill the girl by banging her head against the ground repeatedly, causing major injuries to her head.
According to reports, the accused, who was drunk, took the girl from the rooftop of her house to an abandoned building on February 22. He sexually assaulted her there, leaving her unconscious.
The girl, on regaining consciousness, narrated the ordeal to her parents, who reported the matter to the police.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia condemned the incident and contacted the district administration and police, directing them to ensure immediate justice.
“There is no place for such crimes in our region and state. I took immediate cognisance of the incident and spoke to the district administration and Shivpuri Superintendent of Police and directed them to take strict action against such dreaded criminals so that such incidents do not recur in future,” he tweeted.
