This is the fifth incident of murder in eastern Ahmedabad, within a span of a fortnight, a financier Bala Subramani of Vatva was stabbed to death by a person named Jayesh Goswami who had borrowed money from the deceased. The incident took place near Khokhra Garden, this morning.
According to police sources Bala used to charge 30 percent interest money on the sum of Rs 40,000 borrowed by the accused, who is an auto driver.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, NL Desai said they have rounded up the accused and have sent him for a Covid-19 test before arresting him officially.
Meanwhile, the cops are on their toes as this is the fifth incident of murder that has taken place in eastern Ahmedabad within fifteen days.
According to police sources, Goswami, who is an auto driver and lives in the Khokhra area of the city, had borrowed Rs 40,000 from Bala at a monthly interest of 30%. Police said during primary interrogation of the accused it came to light that Goswami had paid back the amount he had borrowed and still Bala was demanding more money and threatening with dire consequences.
According to police sources, on July 21, while Bala was travelling on his scooter from near Khokhra Garden, Goswami spotted him and followed him in his auto.
“Just as Bala stopped near the traffic signal, Goswami got down from his auto, pulled out a knife, and stabbed Bala repeatedly, killing him on the spot. We reached the spot immediately and rounded up the accused”, said ACP Desai.
Local sources said that Bala used to lend money illegally and whenever a borrower failed to pay the installment, his brother would kidnap the borrower and beat him up in the office located in the Vatva area.
“Bala’s younger brother has recently come out of jail in a case of murder. He had allegedly beaten up a borrower to death”, said a local source.
