Early this morning, an accident unfolded near Bopal Flyover on SP Ring Road, involving two SUVs. The collision claimed the lives of three individuals, while one person sustained injuries and was promptly transported to Sola Civil Hospital for medical attention. Notably, one of the vehicles was carrying liquor.
The incident occurred when a Fortuner, loaded with alcohol, collided head-on with a Thar that was executing a U-turn. The impact was severe, propelling the Thar approximately 150 feet away and resulting in the fatalities of both its occupants. Meanwhile, the Fortuner overturned and was flung 300 meters from the accident site, claiming another life.
Reports indicate that the Fortuner was travelling at speeds between 150 to 200 km/h, with evidence suggesting the collision occurred at approximately 200 km/h. Remarkably, the car’s speedometer was found stuck at this high velocity. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is diligently collecting evidence, although rain may have rendered tyre marks indiscernible. Additionally, police investigations revealed that CCTV cameras in the vicinity were inexplicably switched off during the incident.
The victims include Manish Bhatt (52), a real estate businessman originally from Viramgam, and Ajit Kathi (32), both of whom tragically lost their lives in the Thar. Omprakash (also known as Pappu), the driver of the Fortuner, also succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. Rajuram Bishnoi (24), hailing from Sanchor in Rajasthan, survived but is currently receiving treatment at Sola Civil Hospital.
Notably, the Fortuner involved bears license plate number GJ18 BK 9808, which was originally registered to a Maruti Alto. This discrepancy raises suspicions about the number plate, prompting further investigation by the police.
