Anandnagar police station on Wednesday registered a case of cheating and fraud of Rs 58 lakhs. The complaint was filed by a VISA and Education consultant, Mehboob Khan Pathan from Juhapura.
Pathan, 57, informed the police that he came in contact with the accused Manoj Sharma in December 2019. He posed as a resident of the United States of America and told him that they provide assistance with work permit and visa documents. They would charge Rs 15 lakhs per person to get a work permit for Canada and Rs 6.5 lakh per person for Norway.
To initiate the process, he would charge Rs 1.5 – 2 lakh per person as advance.
He assured Pathan to complete the task within three months and if he was unable to do it, he’d return the money in five days. By January 2020, Pathan deposited Rs 58.5 lakhs in instalments to Sharma. But received no response from them.
Pathan has accused Manoj Sharma, Chandan Sharma and Rahul Binoi in the case. An FIR has been lodged under sections 406, 420, 120B NS regarding cheating and fraud.
