The extended Congress Working Committee meeting that was held in Ahmedabad on Tuesday passed three resolutions, including one on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
While all the three resolutions — Sardar Patel, National and Gujarat politics — were passed at the meeting, the final approval will be given at the All India Congress Committee convention to be held at the Sabarmati Riverfront on Wednesday.
Tuesday’s meeting was chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. It was attended by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, D K Shiv Kumar and Kamal Nath among others. Six leaders from Gujarat Congress also attended the meeting.
The Congress leaders without naming the BJP, hit out at the party for spreading lies about Sardar Patel and his relations with Jawaharlal Nehru.
Giving examples of what Patel had done and now what the BJP is doing, the Congress resolution talks about the path that the party plans to take. The resolution mentions Patel’s fight for the farmers and then talks about how farmers are now denied their dues. It also says that the Congress party is ready to tread the path of struggle shown by Sardar Patel for the rights of the farmers.
Among other points in the resolution the party’s determination to tread upon the path of Sardar Patel of reclaiming the spirit of India by “Shed Hatred-Unite India”.
The party said that it resolves to walk the path of Sardar Patel by fighting for the rights of workers and labour force. It also said that it is ready to walk in the footsteps of Iron Man by a renewed struggle for justice against extreme wealth inequality and deeply embedded concentration of wealth.
One of the important points that the Congress has said in the resolution is that it is determined to emulate the resoluteness of “Iron Man” by fighting the frenzy of religious polarisation.
It also talks about determination to follow the life principles of Patel to defeat the forces of animosity and division while also exposing the fake news factory of these elements.
One of the party leaders, who attended the meeting, told Vibes of India that in the national resolution the issues of justice for the poor and marginalised were taken up. The resolution also speaks about the failure of the government to provide employment. The problems faced in the agriculture sector have also been taken up.
The party has also taken up the foreign policy.
The resolution on Gujarat’s political situation talks about the problems faced by diamond and ceramic industries as also the textile sector. The issue of malnutrition and the problems in the education and health sectors have also been raised.
At the meeting it was stressed that since 2025 was the year of the party’s organisation, efforts will be made to strengthen it.
