Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, on Tuesday, submitted a bail petition with the Supreme Court in the excise policy case.
A bench presided over by the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, noted the arguments made by senior attorney AM Singhvi, who was representing Sisodia, who is now in the custody of the CBI, and decided to hear the case today at 3:50 pm.
The Supreme Court initially noted that the imprisoned AAP politician has options under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), including petitioning the Delhi High Court for release and asking for the FIR to be quashed.
In the excise policy case, a special Delhi court ordered Sisodia to spend the next five days in CBI custody, so that the agency could interrogate him and obtain “legitimate” responses in order to conduct “a proper and fair investigation.”
