NIRF, or the National Institutional Ranking Framework was launched by the Honorable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September, 2015. The purpose of NIRF is to rank universities and colleges of India, across five arenas “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.Overall, across various segments of the universities, and colleges, Gujarat has done a good job.
The colleges/universities selected with respect to different sectors are mentioned below as follows.
Overall
Gujarat University of Gujarat has secured an overall 73 rank. Gujarat University began in the 1920s and it has been 67 years since its first commencement. The university includes 34 Post-Graduate University departments and 221 P.G. Centres. It provides education from a diverse range of disciplines to about two lakh students.
Top University
India has over 1,000 universities out of which the NIRF ranking featured Gujarat University from Ahmedabad in the top 100, at the rank of 58. It is a matter of pride for Gujarat University, to be the only university featured in the top 100, from Gujarat.
Top Colleges
The only college from Gujarat to be featured in the top 100 in the NIRF ratings, was St Xaviers Ahmedabad at rank 52. St Xaviers was established in 1955 and it offers quality education in Sciences, Arts and Commerce. With a NAAC 5 rating, it is a go to choice for many students in Ahmedabad.
Top Research Institutions
In Research Institutions, we have IIT Gandhinagar at the rank of 34 from Gujarat. IIT Gandhinagar has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.
Top Engineering Colleges
Two institutes from Gujarat got featured in the NIRF rating, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, at rank 23 and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Suraṭ, at rank 58.
Top Management Colleges
India has 3 lakh MBAs graduating every year. Obviously, there are thousands of colleges available in India, which accommodate such a huge number of students passing out. Six of the top 100 colleges belong to Gujarat. They have been listed below, in the order of their name, city and rank.

Medical Colleges
Medical remains to be the go-to choice of many students in India. Gujarat secured the rank of 37 and 50 in the NIRF rating, by two colleges Gujarat Cancer & Research university in Ahmedabad and B.J.Medical College in Ahmedabad respectively.
