Ed Sheeran’s live performance on Church Street in Bengaluru was abruptly halted by local police on Sunday. The British pop star, currently on tour in India, had started performing his hit song “Shape of You” to an eager crowd, but the show was cut short after just a minute when authorities intervened.
According to Sheeran’s team, the performance was intended to be a short, impromptu event and had received prior approval. However, Bengaluru police disputed this claim.

The authorities stated that while a request for permission had been submitted, it had not been granted. In response, the police swiftly disconnected the sound equipment and stopped the performance, with Sheeran watching on in surprise.
The interruption occurred during Sheeran’s ongoing tour in India, which has already included stops in Hyderabad and Chennai.
In Chennai, the singer had a memorable collaboration with renowned composer AR Rahman. Sheeran and Rahman performed a special rendition of the iconic “Urvashi” song, which has been described as one of the standout moments of the tour.
Before the concert in Chennai, Sheeran met with Rahman and his son, AR Ameen. Rahman shared glimpses of the meeting on his Instagram, posting photos of the two musicians bonding. One image showed them sitting together on a couch, while another captured Rahman working at his music console, with Sheeran taking the picture. “Photos by Ed Sheeran,” Rahman wrote in the caption.
Sheeran is scheduled to perform in Karnataka later today, with upcoming shows planned for Shillong and Delhi-NCR.
