The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday in connection with its ongoing probe into a money laundering case. The arrest took place at Kejriwal’s official residence, following the Delhi High Court’s refusal to grant him interim protection from coercive action by the ED in the excise policy case.
The court stated, “At this stage, we are not inclined to pass such an order,” in response to Kejriwal’s application for interim relief seeking no coercive action. The application was filed as part of Kejriwal’s writ petition challenging the ED’s summonses in the excise policy case and the validity of certain provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have alleged that the action was taken to prevent Kejriwal from moving the Supreme Court following the high court’s decision not to grant him interim relief from coercive action.
