The eighth episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 2 took a refreshing turn from its usual glitz, inviting Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy with his wife, author and philanthropist Sudha Murty, as well as Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal and his wife, Mexican-born Gia Goyal. The episode offered a mix of hearty insights and laughs, although it struggled to balance business talk with the show’s characteristic humour.
Sudha Murty was undoubtedly the highlight, captivating the audience with her candid, playful wit. Her humorous jabs at her husband and down-to-earth charm had the crowd laughing. When she lightheartedly criticised the high cost of business-class tickets, joking, “An economy class ticket will get me to the same destination at the same time,” she struck a relatable chord. She also teased host Kapil Sharma when he tried to dodge her suggestion that all men should help out in the kitchen. “Show me your hands,” she demanded, catching him off guard. “You haven’t washed utensils… Kapil-ji, humse panga mat lena!”
Meanwhile, Narayana Murthy seemed a bit out of place, looking occasionally at his watch, perhaps more comfortable in a boardroom than on a comedy set. His expressions hinted at bemusement, as if questioning his presence amidst the show’s typical slapstick.
Deepinder Goyal, however, embraced the show’s comedic atmosphere. Known for quick deliveries through his Blinkit app, he also delivered quick laughs. When Kapil asked if some of Zomato’s quirky notifications were his personal messages to Gia, Goyal replied with a chuckle, “Absolutely, once or twice I’ve thought, ‘This would make a great notification, let me send it out!’”
When Archana Puran Singh asked Gia her favourite Indian food, she playfully replied, “Chhole Bhature,” embodying her Delhi spirit. This came just after Sudha Murty had expressed her preference for healthier food, but she joined in the fun, quipping, “After all that Chhole Bhature, you’re still so slim!”
The show also featured boxer Neeraj Goyat, though his brief appearance seemed somewhat out of place among the high-profile guests. Nonetheless, he contributed to the light-hearted banter.
Despite these lively moments, the show’s regular comic trio—Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, and Sunil Grover—appeared misaligned with the guests, delivering sketches that seemed out of step with the occasion. Given the presence of two industry giants and one of India’s most respected authors, fans had hoped for a more tailored approach, but the show struggled to blend its usual style with the distinguished guest lineup.
