Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International(SVPI) airport has introduced 11 additional electric cars and 6 electric scooters as part of continuous efforts towards carbon neutrality. In the efforts towards sustainable tomorrow and airport operators’ commitment to reduce carbon footprint, newly introduced electric vehicles will replace existing conventional vehicles.
Last year, as an environmentally sensitive airport operator, SVPI airport introduced 3 EVs that are being used as passenger terminal shuttles. Adding to this fleet, SVPI airport introduced 2 EV cars replacing traditional fossil fuel cars two months back.
Now 11 additional EV-cars will be used for administrative and operational requirements of the airport replacing existing traditional cars. Six scooters will also fulfil the requirement for staff mobility. Now SVPI airport has 15 EV cars and 6 scooters. A dedicated charging station was installed near the domestic terminal for passengers as well.
Additionally, as per increasing requirements, infrastructure is being developed to encourage stakeholders to switch to more and more EVs. The existing infrastructure helps and encourages passengers and staff to use EVs while coming to the airport. Other stakeholders like some of the airlines have also started introducing electric vehicles joining the march towards a greener tomorrow.
SVPI airport has been also replacing traditional lights with LEDs, using treated water for gardening and water recharge has been a prime focus since the operation of the airport. Going further the efforts will intensify with support from stakeholders and airport users.
