Dug up roads and unending wait for construction of the new one has left Ahmedabad citizens in pain. The neverending construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roads near Jodhpur Gam and Prernatirth Derasar is turning into a nightmare for the area’s residents and those commuting through it.
Road work here has been on for at least two months, wreaking havoc on commuters.
Apart from being an everyday pain for commuters and residents, it is also hampering access to emergency services.
“Ten days ago, my grandson had breathing problems and was not moving. I had to rush him to hospital but there was no way of getting out of the building because of the construction. There were no rickshaws or cabs available either, due to the traffic jam on the road. I had to scream for help,” Mamta Raval, a 52-year-old resident of a building said.
The situation is the same on Prernatirth Derasar Road, a stretch of which is dug up for RCC work.
“These roads in Jodhpur, around Derasar, are all arterial roads connecting various parts of the city. For residents, there is chaos every day trying to get out or get back in as the adjoining roads are not levelled properly. During peak hours, we cannot even step out for walks as half the road is encroached on by parked vehicles and the commuter traffic is so heavy,” said Shravasti Vaghela, who lives in the area.
As half of Jodhpur Gam Road and Prernatirth Derasar Road are dug up, a large part of the traffic from Shivranjani Crossroads to Prahladnagar, South Bopal, and Vejalpur, takes the Anandnagar Road, leading to nasty traffic snarls.
“I drive from work in Navrangpura to South Bopal every evening. Earlier, I took the road from Jodhpur Gam to Prernatirth Derasar to Karnavati Club and onwards. However, with multiple patches of construction, traffic congestion at about 7.30-8pm is high. A couple of times, I got stuck for 20 minutes just on Prernatirth Derasar Road. Even when I go from Shyamal Crossroads on Anandnagar Road, the volume of traffic seems much higher, and the unmanned signals make it nearly impossible to manage traffic,” said Atharv Maheshwari, a resident of the area.
The work has been going on for a long time now. The civic authorities seem in the dark regarding proper management of the situation and early completion of the work to ease life of commuters and residents. No one has a clue when normal traffic will be restored, complained residents.
