Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) was successfully flight-tested by the Indian Navy and the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) on Friday.
The launch was conducted from an Indian Naval Ship, off the coast of Chandipur, Odisha.
VL-SRSAM, designed jointly by three DRDO facilities for Indian Naval warships, is intended to counter various aerial threats at close ranges, including sea-skimming targets.
The VL-SRSAM is a ship-based weapon system designed to counter various aerial threats at close ranges, including sea-skimming targets.
“The system was successfully engaged during today’s launch against a high-speed aerial target mimicking aircraft,” said DRDO officials.
The officials added that the vehicle’s flight path and health parameters were monitored using a variety of tracking instruments deployed by ITR, Chandipur.
VL-SRSAM was tested successfully in February and December of last year. Following the successful flight test on Friday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, Indian Navy, and industry, stating that the system added an armor that will further enhance the defence capability of Indian Naval Ships against aerial threats, said the MoD.
Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, and DRDO Chairman Dr. G Satheesh Reddy complimented the teams involved in the successful flight test.
