The District Child Protection Unit in Ahmedabad has issued a formal notice to singer Chris Martin and the organisers of the Coldplay concert scheduled for January 25 and 26, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The notice instructs the organisers to refrain from using children in any capacity on stage during the concert.
Additionally, the organisers have been directed to ensure that children attending the concert are provided with earplugs or other forms of hearing protection.
The unit has expressed concern over the potential health risks to children posed by the concert’s sound levels, which could exceed 120 decibels. Such loud volumes, the unit warns, could pose significant dangers to children’s physical health.
The notice further states that failure to comply with these directives will result in strict action from the unit.
The notice follows a complaint lodged by Pandit Rao Dharnevar, an Assistant Professor of Sociology in Chandigarh.
Speaking to a section of the media, Dharnevar explained that exposing children to concerts featuring loud sounds and bright lights could have a detrimental effect on their physical health and mental development.
Dharnevar has expressed his intention to continue taking similar steps in the future to protect children’s rights.
Diljit Was Also Given Notice
This is not the first time Dharnevar has raised concerns regarding concerts and their impact on young audiences. He had previously filed a complaint against Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s New Year’s Eve concert in Ludhiana.
This complaint prompted the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Department, Government of Punjab, to issue a formal notice to Ludhiana’s District Commissioner, urging the prevention of certain songs from being performed at the concert.
These songs, such as ‘Patiala Peg,’ ‘5 Tara Theke,’ and ‘Case (Jeeb Vicho Feem Labbiya),’ were alleged to promote alcohol consumption, with the notice calling for a ban on their performance, even if their lyrics were altered.
Dharnevar raised concerns about the potential influence of such songs, particularly on young audiences.
