Devendra Fadnavis May Divorce Me, Amruta Told Bookie

| Updated: June 6, 2023 12:27

The daughter of suspected bookie Anil Jaisinghani had once told Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, that they can earn a “huge sum of money” by giving information about bookies to police and getting them arrested, according to a chargesheet filed by the Mumbai police in a bribery and extortion attempt case.

The 793-page document has named Anil Jaisinghani, his daughter Aniksha and his cousin Nirmal as accused in the case related to demanding bribes and trying to extort money from Amruta Fadnavis.

The charge sheet includes screenshots of purported WhatsApp conversations and messages exchanged between Amruta Fadnavis and Anil Jaisinghani, his daughter Aniksha, and his cousin Nirmal. The case stems from accusations of demanding bribes and attempting to extort money from Amruta Fadnavis.

The incident came to light after the Malabar Hill police station in South Mumbai registered an FIR on February 20, following allegations that the Jaisinghanis threatened to release audio and video clips purportedly showing Amruta Fadnavis accepting favors from Aniksha.

According to the charge sheet, in one of the conversations, Amruta Fadnavis expressed concerns about her relationship with Devendra Fadnavis, stating that “their relationship was not going well since 2019”. Additionally, the document includes videos prepared by Aniksha Jaisinghani allegedly aimed at framing the deputy CM’s wife.

Aniksha Jaisinghani is accused of attempting to extort money from Amruta Fadnavis by threatening to release compromising videos and audios. In one message, she warned that the media would use the evidence against Devendra Fadnavis, leading to his potential resignation as deputy chief minister and jeopardizing Amruta Fadnavis’ own career.

“WE WANT JUSTICE ONLY AND NOTHING ELSE DURING PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT MVA PERIOD AND IN THE TENURE OF CP MUMBAI HEMANT NAGARALE AND SANJAY PANDEY THE RE-INVESTIGATION WAS DONE AND BOTH THE CASES WERE ON VERGE OF CLOSURE AS THERE WERE BOGUSLY FILED ON ME THEN AS THE SHIFT IN POWER HAPPENED AND EVERYONE KNEW DEVEN BHARTI WILL COME BACK IN MUMBAI POLICE AS HE IS CLOSE TO HON’BLE DCM FADNAVISJI SIR THEY STOPPED GIVING ME JUSTICE AND AS EXPECTED DEVEN BHARTI AGAIN CAME AND INTERRUPTED IN MY MATTERS,” read one of the messages, which is part of the charge sheet.

Furthermore, the chargesheet reveals that Aniksha Jaisinghani proposed a deal to Amruta Fadnavis, offering to provide all the original video and audio recordings in exchange for a one-time payment of 10 crore rupees. She assured Fadnavis that the recordings would be deleted, ensuring no further exposure.

Anil Jaisinghani, the father of Aniksha, also communicated with Amruta Fadnavis, seeking Devendra Fadnavis’ intervention in his legal matters. He claimed to be falsely implicated in cases and expressed disappointment with the lack of progress under the previous government and the involvement of certain Mumbai Police officials.

Amruta Fadnavis responded to the messages, stating that she would review the cases and discuss them with Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the home portfolio.

The chargesheet also mentions the alleged involvement of a jailed bookie facing multiple cases in Mumbai and neighboring areas, who appears to have played a significant role in the unfolding events.

The document reveals that Aniksha Jaisinghani initially presented herself as a struggling dress and jewellery designer seeking support from Amruta Fadnavis. Their interactions progressed, but suspicions arose, leading Fadnavis to sever ties with Jaisinghani, particularly after Jaisinghani personally placed a jewelled necklace around Fadnavis’ neck during one meeting.

All three accused individuals were arrested following the filing of the FIR in February. While Aniksha Jaisinghani and Nirmal are currently out on bail, Anil Jaisinghani remains in jail under judicial custody. The investigation into the case continues as authorities gather additional evidence and statements to fully understand the scope of the alleged extortion and bribery plot.
