The Delhi Police recorded statements of 200 people in connection with the alleged charges of sexual harassment against BJP MP and WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Additionally, the Delhi Police filed a 1500-page chargesheet against him based on the following charges: 1) Sections 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) 2) 354A (sexually coloured remarks) 3) 354D (stalking) and 4) 506(1) (criminal intimidation) of IPC.
Essentially, the chargesheet means that according to the investigation, he made sexually implicit remarks, and stalked and criminally intimidated women.
However, he hasn’t been arrested yet. The offences he has reportedly been charged with are not punishable with more than five years.
According to a leading daily, an investigator in the case said, “The chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar — accused in column no. 11 — has been filed without their arrest according to the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court in ‘Arnesh Kumar versus State of Bihar’ judgment wherein the Supreme Court has laid down the law regarding the arrest of the accused, more particularly in offences punishable up to seven years.”
It’s reported that Brij Bhushan cooperated with the evidence during the probe.
Earlier, citing a lack of corroborative evidence, the Delhi Police has also filed a cancellation report in the POCSO case against the WFI chief. The minor’s father had reportedly claimed that he had filed a false complaint against Singh.
