In a fresh twist in the murder of 24-year-old Nikki Yadav, police have found that the accused, Sahil Gehlot (24), was not just her live-in partner but her husband too — the couple solemnised their marriage at a temple three years ago but didn’t tell their families.
Sources said the two had not invited their families to the wedding, and that when Sahil’s family found out eventually, they opposed the relationship because the two were from different communities.
This was the trigger of an argument between the couple.
Nikki was allegedly strangled by Sahil with a charging cable. He then stuffed the body in a fridge at a restaurant owned by his family in the chilling re-run of last year’s Aaftab Poonawalla and Shraddha Walkar case.
Police recovered the body of Nikki Yadav on Tuesday when many in the country were celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Nikki never knew that her live-in partner was engaged to another woman. When she found out a day before his wedding, Sahil, his family and friends then hatched a conspiracy to murder her.
Sahil executed the plan and informed the other accused on February 10, the night of the murder, and all of them went ahead with the wedding.
The Delhi Police arrested Sahil’s father, Virendra Singh, cousin brothers Ashish and Naveen, and friends Lokesh and Amar after they found out that Sahil’s family and friends were involved in the murder. All five accused have been sent to three-day police remand.
