Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Challenges Arrest in High Court Amid Liquor Policy Scam Investigation

| Updated: July 1, 2024 12:37

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Delhi High Court to challenge his recent arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the liquor policy scam. The move comes just two days after Kejriwal was remanded to judicial custody until July 12 by a Delhi court.

The lower court, while granting custody, identified Kejriwal as one of the “main conspirators” in the ongoing investigation. The CBI produced him in court following a three-day custodial interrogation, during which the agency alleges that he did not fully cooperate and provided evasive responses.

The CBI’s remand plea expresses concern that Kejriwal may influence both existing witnesses and potential witnesses yet to be examined. The agency seeks 14-day judicial custody for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief.

Kejriwal, aged 55, was arrested on June 26 by the CBI from Tihar Jail, where he was already in judicial custody related to a connected money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate.
