A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Mumbai was diverted to Ahmedabad following a bomb threat that was later determined to be a hoax, officials reported on Wednesday. The incident occurred shortly after the flight departed from Mumbai on Tuesday night when an unidentified individual tweeted that a bomb had been placed on board the aircraft, which was carrying nearly 200 passengers and crew members.
According to an official from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, the pilots, alerted by the Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC), opted for an emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport, the nearest facility to their route to Delhi.
“Upon landing around midnight, the aircraft was thoroughly inspected by security agencies overnight. Fortunately, nothing suspicious was found,” the official stated. The flight resumed its journey to Delhi at approximately 8 am on Wednesday morning after receiving clearance from security personnel.
In recent days, several flights have experienced similar hoax bomb threats. On Monday, three international flights departing from Mumbai reported bomb threats. An Air India flight bound for New York was diverted to New Delhi and rescheduled, while two IndiGo flights faced significant delays.
