Due to lack of coordination between Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda), construction of the flyover over Dehgam Crossroads on SP Ring Road has been delayed by two years. The wrangle involved the shifting of an overhead high-tension line underground. The flyover was to be completed last year January.
“Only a few days ago did GETCO start the high-tension line shifting work,” said a senior Auda official. The shifting of the line will be completed by January 2023. The initial estimated cost of the flyover, which is 743m long, was Rs 98 crore. The work order for the flyover was issued by Auda in January 2019 and construction was to be completed in 24 months.
Sources in Auda admit that when the flyover work was being finalised, their engineers had not accounted for the shifting of the high-tension line. Auda officials say this problem was caused due to negligence by their consultants and the supervising Auda engineers, along with a lack of co-ordination between the two government agencies.
Auda’s executive engineer BM Trivedi said, “Auda paid GETCO for the high-tension line shifting work two years ago, but their process got delayed. The work for taking one power line underground will be completed by December 18, and work on the second line is expected to be completed by January 2023. It will be only after this that the Dehgam flyover construction work can resume.”
