A 30-year-old man, Jignesh Chauhan, died due to cardiac arrest while playing cricket in the Race Course area of Rajkot on Sunday. In a simialr incident, in Surat, 27-year-old Prashant Bharolia succumbed in a hospital on Sunday. He was rushed there following a complaint of chest pain after playing cricket.
Chauhan is the third person to die in Rajkot, after playing cricket, in a span of 20 days. In Surat, Kishan Patel of Sheikhpura village had died a couple of weeks ago after playing cricket in adjoining Salut village. In all, five deaths have been reported in Gujarat till now where victims died after or while playing cricket.
Jignesh Chauhan was playing cricket at Rajkot’s Madhavrao Scindia Cricket ground while participating in the Interpress media tournament. After being bowled out, he came out of the ground and sat on the chair.
Suddenly, he complained of massive chest pain. Before people could rush to his rescue, he fell unconscious. He was rushed to the Rajkot Civil Hospital. Doctors could not detect the pulse and found that his heart had stopped working. He is believed to have died of cardiac arrest.
Four days ago, Bharat Baraiya, a youth in his twenties, died in a similar way after playing cricket. A week before that Vivek Kumar, studying in Rajkot’s Marwadi College, became unconscious while playing football. Vivek Kumar was declared dead before any treatment could be given to him.
In Surat, Prashant Bharolia complained of chest pain after playing cricket. After treatment at a private hospital he was shifted to Smimer Hospital where he died after a short treatment.
