India’s enemy number 1 by many accounts and the man behind 1993 Mumbai serial blasts that killed 257 innocent people, Dawood Ibrahim is reportedly been hospitalised In Karachi, Pakistan. There is speculation that the underworld don is poisoned. If he dies, Dawood Ibrahim would be the latest in the series of known anti-India faces abroad getting eliminated in recent past.
The fugitive criminal is believed to have settled in the Clifton neighborhood in Karachi. The Government of India has put forward related documents to various forums but so far Pakistan has denied Dawood’s presence on it’s soil. Dawood Ibrahim, a very high profile criminal is believed to carry several fake identities, supported by the powers that be in Pakistan since several decades.
The National Investigation Agency has been told by a nephew of Dawood in January that Dawood with his second wife Mehzabeen and daughters Mahrukh, Mehreen and Mazia as well as son Mohin Nawaz lives in Karachi. Mahrukh is reported to have been wedded to Junaid, son of well known cricketer Javed Miandad.
Dawood Ibrahim and his network of crime and illegal activities have come to be known in poular culture as infamous “D-company”. The D Company is beleived to be still active, controlling criminal activities in Mumbai, which include trafficking drugs, arms, counterfeiting, extorsion, terrorism. 10th edition of the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) even cited that the criminal outfit has strong links with global terrorist groups such as al-Qaida.
Dawood Ibrahim in the late 80s and 90s was instrumental in creating extremely hazardous impact on Indian society as a whole. A whole league of criminals emerged idolizing the Don. The corruption with the Indian political circles and Law enforcement agencies helped Dawood, a petty criminal in Mumbai to begin with, into a giant monster that he became later.
