Gujarat Police have revealed that the dubious ‘DaniData’ app fraud has affected people across India and the multi-crore cyber scam is not just limited to Gujarat.
CID (crime), which has been tracking and probing the case for the last one year, said in a statement that complaints of alleged fruad by the football betting app has been received from at least six states so far.
The statement reads, “Complaints with regard to the fraud of DaniData application have been received from many states including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and the DaniData application fraud appears to have spread across India.”
The mastermind of the whole fraud is Chinese resident Woo Uyanbe alias Chamber who had sneaked into India and contacted locals in Gujarat’s Patan and Banaskantha to introduce the app to the people.
The Indians involved in the collaboration have been identified as Lakhan Thakkar and Nayan Shah, who are Dubai-based individuals that Woo contacted to lure Indians into the trap.
Uyanbe appears to have come to India and stayed in Delhi between 2017 and 2019, the police said.
The investigating agency stated further that the swindle took place between December 2021 and June 2022, and Uyanbe was not in India during this period.
While Woo fled India way back in 2019, the police have so far arrested 10 persons after filing a charge sheet in this case in March, while they have initiated the process to get a red-corner notice issued through Interpol to nab Woo.
