A 17-year-old boy from the scheduled caste (SC) community was allegedly attacked by an upper-caste man and his two aides for moving around in the lane where the man lived in Chandlodia area of Ahmedabad on Sunday.
The boy’s mother, Champa Makwana, a widow who works for a private hospital, filed an FIR with Sola police against the accused, identified as Sanjay Dubey and his two associates.
According to the FIR, Champa was hosting a lunch for children on the second death anniversary of her husband and asked her son Mehul to buy some food. Mehul forgot his wallet at home and Champa ran behind him to give it to him. She saw Dubey and his aides assaulting Mehul and intervened.
Mehul told her that Dubey stopped him and abused him for using the lane of Radhika Society, where Dubey lived. Dubey and his aides also hurled caste-based slurs at Mehul and beat him up, warning him to never enter the lane again.
Champa called the police and lodged a complaint against Dubey and his aides for assault, criminal intimidation and abetment under the Indian Penal Code and offences under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
