State says prepared for likely third wave

The state health minister Rushikesh Patel in a press conference on Thursday had said the Gujarat government has so far arranged a total of 1,10,000 beds to meet the possible Covid third wave. Of the designated beds, 15,900 are ICU beds, while 1,800 are beds with ventilator support. Besides this, the state is prepared to set up 300 to 1,500-bed Covid-designated hospitals in any city or district when the need arises, the health minister had added.

“We have a sufficient quantity of medicines needed for Covid-19,” the health minister told reporters.

The minister also said they have reserved 10-20 per cent of beds for children in Covid hospitals across the state.
