A recent incident in Gujarat’s Junagadh has brought serious allegations against the state police functioning.
A young man named Harshil Jadav was allegedly thrashed in police custody, resulting in severe injuries, which subsequently caused his death under suspicious circumstances.
On January 22, Jadav was declared dead in the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. Earlier, during police remand from January 10 to January 12, Harshil had allegedly been subjected to severe physical abuse by PSI Mukesh Makwana of the Junagadh B-Division Police Station.
The victim’s head was reportedly smashed with a baton, causing severe injuries, following which he became unconscious. Despite being sent to the hospital for treatment, Harshil’s condition worsened, leading to his eventual demise.
The incident has raised serious questions about police brutality and the lack of accountability. In another shocking revelation, it is reported that PSI Makwana demanded a sum of Rs 3 lakh from Harshil family in exchange for not framing him in false charges. The victim’s family alleged that Harshil was being forced to pay up and had he complied, he might be alive today.
It is crucial to note that Makwana has a history of facing allegations related to attempts at extrajudicial killings. The incident has sparked public outrage, and people are demanding a thorough investigation into both the alleged police brutality and the circumstances surrounding Harshil Jadav’s death.
The case highlights the need for accountability and transparency within the police force to ensure justice for victims of abuse and violence.
