An interesting amalgamation of artwork is currently on display at the Hutheesingh Centre, CEPT University. Curated by Jamshed Chinoy, the show features artwork by 14 artists. The exhibition is on till February 21.
An avid art collector as much as a brilliant art expert, Chinoy shares: “This is 15 years of sourcing artwork. Some have been bought from auction houses in Delhi and Mumbai. I go with the newer wave of contemporary artists who are oft not valued, because older classics continue to rule preferences and the art canvas. In my opinion, most of the pieces can go under the hammer for heft sums.”
This is Chinoy’s first such showing in Ahmedabad. “Ahmedabad has art lovers but is still not as vibrant an art market as Delhi or Mumbai. Maybe, patrons do not get good pieces to invest in and that is why I wanted to showcase the series here. We are confident of a positive reponse,” he adds.
The pieces are a varied lot of subtle and outright direct, modern art and art that colours contemporary issues with a classic take. Some mixed media work is sure to leave connoisseurs delighted.
