Famous by 2013 film ABCD: Anybody Can Dance and American dancer and actor Lauren Gottlieb said she wasn’t happy anymore and “just kept spiraling” despite her fame in Bollywood. She said while revealing the reasons behind her deciding to take a break.
Lauren was at the peak of her fame when she decided to call it quits. She said she knew the risk of taking the drastic step but also knew that she needed to work on herself and feel mentally healthy and was confident that she can be back.
Lauren would feel miserable every time leaving her home in US to come to India, pushing hard to remind herself that she has a contract on her hand to honour. It was not the work, she said she knew she was good at it and felt in control, but many other things she said were not in her control and made her feeling depressive.
Bogged down by the cultural differences and language barrier between India and the US, Lauren says she felt worn out. The paparazzi culture around airports also disturbed her enough to wear baseball caps to avoid eye contact with paps. “keeping staring at the ground became my comfort zone” She recalls ruminating that is “not a way to live.” She didn’t want to pinpoint a single incident which triggered her decision and said there were several reasons, including some
relationships going sour.
Most interestingly, voicing the cultural difference between the east and west she observed that people were giving her several fabricated versions in India while the truth lied somewhere else. As an American preferring the hard and honest truth, she said her brain was tired of doing the mental gymnastics.
