The Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Gujarat (CUG), Professor Rama Shanker Dubey, has been granted a one-year extension by the Central Government. The official order, issued on Monday, extends Professor Dubey’s tenure by an additional year under the powers vested by the Central University Act, 2009 and authorised by the President of India, who serves as the University’s Visitor.

According to Dr Sunil Kumar Sharma, CUG’s Public Relations Officer, Professor Dubey’s original five-year term was set to conclude on November 21 2024. However, with the new directive, his term will continue for up to one more year or until a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed.

The official order signed by under secretary, Government India Rajesh Kumar stated: “I am directed to convey that in exercise of powers conferred under statutes of Central Universities Act, 2009, the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of Central University of Gujarat is pleased to extend the term of Prof Rama Shanker Dubey whose tenure is expiring on 21.112024 as Vice Chancellor of Central University of Gujarat till the appointment of new Vice-Chancellor subject to a maximum period of one year since the expiry of this tenure.”
